Teen Course

TeenCourse Length
       The course is scheduled to being on a Monday evening. The school secures a Learner’s Permit for the student. The actual length of the course will depend upon the student’s flexibility to schedule the driving sessions. Normal length would be three to six weeks.

Classroom Schedule
     
The classroom sessions will be scheduled for a total of nine hours. Classes are every Monday, except holidays, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The student must attend three consecutive classrooms. If one is missed, it must be made up.

Classroom Curriculum
    
The classroom curriculum will be based on lectures, videos, quizzes and discussions led by the instructor. For a complete curriculum, a course outline is available.

Classroom Student Expectations
    
After completion of classroom, the student must pass a written test with a score of 90% or above. The questions come from material presented during the classroom presentations. The test may be retaken.

Behind the Wheel Schedule
   
The times for behind the wheel driving sessions will be agreed upon by the instructor, student and parent and / or guardian. The student will be picked up and returned to their home or any reasonable destination within the city. The driving lessons shall consist of one-hour sessions, with longer sessions available upon request in half-hour increments.

Behind the Wheel Curriculum
   
Some of the competencies to be mastered include:

  • Steering, Speeding & Braking Control
  • Lane Maintenance & Space Management
  • Defensive Driving Strategies
  • Right Turns at Intersections
  • Left Turns at Intersections
  • Lane Changing Procedures
  • Parking Procedures
  • Backing & U-Turns

Behind the Wheel Student Expectations
   
The student will be expected to successfully pass the behind the wheel driving competencies to the instructor's satisfaction.

Kansas Law
  
By Kansas Law, teens up to age 16 must have a certified DE Course with a minimum of 8 hours classroom and 6 hours behind the wheel.

Enrollment
  
To enroll in our certified course, schedule an appointment by phone by calling 316-683-1818, or arrive in our offices by 6:30 p.m. any Monday evening (excluding major holidays), and fill out an enrollment agreement (both student's and parent’s signatures are required). The enrollment fee is due at this time.

Fee Structure
   Our fees are as follows:
    $45  -   Enrollment
    $25  -   Classroom Session – 3 Hours (3 required)
    $35  -   Per Hour Lesson In-Car (6 required)
   
$330 - Total Fee for Basic Course

Other Teenager Course packages are available. Please inquire if interested.

Completion
  
Upon successful completion of any Teenager Course (which includes passing written tests and acceptable behind the wheel skills and attitudes) the student shall receive a Certificate of Completion (insurance discounts) and a Kansas Division of Vehicles Form DE-99 (applying for license) to present to the Kansas Driver’s License Examination Stations.
